"And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span?” (Luke 12:25) Deep inside everybody’s soul, in the secret chambers where no other person knows our thoughts, there is often a worry or two residing there. That happens even in those person’s hearts that spend most of their time smiling and laughing. We worry about death, either our own or a loved one. We worry about disobedience and sin, feelings of guilt. We worry about daily problems – people problems, decision problems, work problems, home issues, relationships, finances, school . . . you name it, we worry about it. One huge problem with worry is that it keeps you from enjoying what you have. When you worry about what you don’t have, you aren’t able to enjoy what you do have. Jesus said, “I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, as to what you shall eat, or what you shall drink . . . “ (Matthew 6:25). Worry is assuming responsibilities that you cannot handle. They are responsibilities that God never intended for any of us to handle because they are His
