"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature, the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." (2 Cor. 5:17) People that spend all their time living in the past are usually the most unhappy people. And what a waste of time . . . there is only two things in the past: great accomplishments that can make us proud by reliving them or indifferent by resting on them; or failures and defeats that can bring upon us feelings of guilt and shame. Why in the world would anyone want to live in the past? If we spend all our time recalling those inglorious, ineffective, events of yesterday, our energy will be sapped for facing the demands of today. Rehearsing those wrongs, now forgiven by the Lord's grace, derails us and demoralizes us. Those are joy stealers . . . we must not let them haunt our minds. As we run this race with diligence, we must leave the past behind and, as Paul said, "press on toward the goal to reach the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus!"
