"Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him." (Proverbs 30:5) What a busy, busy world we live in . . . it seems like all of us are busy being busy, but not accomplishing much. God's Word is filled with references to the value of spending time with Him. When we do, all the debris we have gathered during the hurried, busy hours of our day get filtered out. With the debris out of the way, we are able to see things more clearly and we are more sensitive to God when He nudges us. David often spent time alone with God. He probably developed this habit during the long nights of tending his father's sheep. Later, during the years when King Saul was borderline insane and pursuing him out of jealousy, David found his time with God not only a needed refuse, but his means of survival. God has not changed over all these years. He still longs to speak to waiting hearts that are quiet before Him!
