"You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house." (1 Peter 2:5) Life does not always treat us fairly. Sometimes bad things happen. I know people that have lost their job or family members or, like Job in the Old Testament, have lost everything. When that happens we need to tenaciously hold to our faith in Christ, which might be the only thing we have left. I heard the story of a man who had lost everything and like Job, he couldn't help but wonder why. One day he stopped to watch some men doing stonework on a huge church. One of the workers was chiseling a triangular piece of stone. The man asked the workman what he was going to do with that stone. The workman said, "See that little opening away up there near the spire? Well, I'm shaping this down here so it will fit in up there." Tears filled the man's eyes as he walked away, for it seemed that God had spoken through the workman to explain the ordeal through which he was passing, "I'm shaping you down here so you'll fit in up there!" No matter what happens, we must cling tightly to our faith in Christ!
