"Do not be conceited." (Romans 12:16) Conceited, self-serving Christians are a serious contradiction. If we are following Christ, then we will be submissive to His will as contained in His Word. Any confidence that we have in ourselves, our own wisdom or natural talents must be subordinated to the Lord's commands. In no way should we ever be self-centered, or in any way consider ourselves better than fellow believers. Instead, God wants us to accept and embrace every member of the body of Christ: "Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others" (Phil. 2:4). That should always be our attitude!
